First, have a solid lesson on sharing! Sharing is an incredibly subtle concept, so to keep things simple I appealed to the inherent selfishness of most young kids—how is sharing is beneficial to you?
Second, to have high contrast illustrations and simple art that's easy to visually consume.
Third, I wanted to make a book that a pre-reading kiddo could pick up and still follow. Toddlers are also still figuring out facial expressions and how we use them to communicate—so I zoomed in on the main characters' faces and let them tell a story, with or without words.
